Cement tiles, a.k.a. hydraulic tiles are handmade colorful tiles used as floor and wall tiling. They appeared in Catalonia in as early as 17th century, and have been widely used in Europe and America ever since. Generally made with two layers, the first layer (exposed face) is a mixture of white cement, powdered white marble and natural color pigmented powder. Cement tile's second layer mortar made of fine sand and standard portland gray cement mixed with water. Since Cement tiles are not fired; there is no glaze layer on the surface of the tile and hydraulic force used to press the tile's two layers compressed together hence the alternative name "hydraulic tile".

Sealing: Our cement tiles have a light sealer that is applied at the factory to protect the tiles during transit and while stored. However, they still must be sealed again during the installation process as noted in our installation instructions.
